💡 What We’ve Learned
Welcome to Sunday’s cat training journey. Cat training builds trust, reduces stress, and deepens the bond between you and your cat. It gives your cat a fun job and lots of mental stimulation. I learn something new every day. We also do cooperative care like carrier training and nail trims. Sunday has become more affectionate because of the training plus her sweet nature.
Positive Reinforcement
Welcome to Sunday’s training journey! This website follows Sunday, a curious and clever calico cat learning the art of clicker training through CatSchool. We’re here to share our progress, challenges, and what we’re learning along the way. We always stay positive!
What is Clicker Training?
Clicker training is a form of positive reinforcement that uses a distinct sound—a “click”—to mark desired behaviors in cats. This method helps cats associate the behavior with a reward, making it more likely they’ll repeat it.
- Clicker training: Start by clicking or saying a word like “yes.” Instantly offer a treat. This helps your cat link the sound with a positive outcome.
- Marking the Behavior: When your cat performs the desired action, click at that exact moment to mark it.
- Rewarding: Follow the click with a treat to reinforce the behavior.
Over time, your cat will understand that certain actions lead to rewards — and keep coming back for more.
Putting It Into Practice
Programs like CatSchool teach clicker training step by step. A few examples:
Target Training: You teach your cat to touch a stick with their nose. Once they get it, you can build on that skill to teach more tricks.
High-Five: Your cat lifts a paw to meet your hand. It’s a simple trick that’s also a great trust-builder.
Nail Trim Prep: You get your cat comfortable with you holding their paws. You help them get comfortable with the nail trimmer
These activities give your cat something to think about. They bring the two of you closer in the process.

Positive Reinforcement Wins
Positive reinforcement in cat training offers several advantages:
- Enhanced Learning: Cats are more likely to learn behaviors when they’re rewarded for the right actions.
- Reduced Stress: This method lessens stress and fear in your cat.
- Improved Relationship: Positive interactions during training sessions deepen the trust and affection between you and your cat.
Sunday’s Clicker Training Journey
Sunday came to us as a stray, rescued through a friend. We had no idea how much she had to teach us. Sunday is the first cat we’ve had as a couple, and we could not love her more! After watching some cat training videos on YouTube, I was eager to try it with Sunday. That’s when I discovered CatSchool with Julie Posluns.
Sunday and I signed up, and from the start, we absolutely love CatSchool!
Sunday’s Progress So Far
Follow along as Sunday learns new tricks and skills on her training journey. In the program Sunday participates in, there are five CatSchool grades. Each grade builds on the skills of the prior grade, and the tasks become increasingly challenging. Our teacher, her assistant, and fellow CatSchoolers are there to help us each paw step of the way.
