Cats are supposed to see a cat litter box and do their thing, you scoop the poop and no problem. Right? Well, it’s not so easy. If your cat is avoiding the litter box, you are not alone. Many cat guardians share your frustration.

Don’t Block My Litter Box

Make sure the litter box is in a place that easy for your cat to see out from, and easy to escape. Sunday’s litter box doesn’t have a cover and it’s free on 2 sides. She feels safe and comfortable using her litter box.

The Best Cat Litter

Cat’s paws are very sensitive.

You might need to try a few different brands and types of cat litter before finding just the right one. Scents and perfumes are for people, not for the benefit of the cat.

Pellet style cat litter can be a cause of avoidance. It can be uncomfortable on the paws.

We love using World’s Best Cat Litter. It leaves virtually no dust. After Sunday uses her litter box, it does not smell. World’s Best it’s a clumping, granular litter made from whole-kernel corn. It has a fine, sand-like texture.

Special note, if your cat has been declawed, their paws will be especially sensitive to cat litter. You might need to take extra time to find the litter that is most comfortable for your cat.

Make Mine Extra Large

Make sure that your litter box is big enough. We started out with a standard size litter box for Sunday, and then decided to go up one size larger. Sunday uses an iPrimio XL Stainless Steel Litter Box.

I Want My Own Litter Box

We just have Sunday, but if you have more than one kitty living with you, it’s best to have more than one litter box. The advice I come across the most says that it’s good to have one litter box for each cat plus one extra litter box. If you have more than one cat, please let us know about your experience.

But I’m Getting Old

If your feline friend is getting up in years, they might have trouble getting up into the litter box, and you might find more litter box accidents. Will a little step help them? Maybe time to get a litter box with lower sides.

How Do We Get Rid of This Stuff?

We save bags from the grocery store and other places to use to dispose of Sunday’s waste. We also keep some bags on hand that are dedicated to the task. When we run out of our random bags, we use BOS Amazing Odor Sealing Cat Waste Disposal Bags. What do you use?

It might take some time to sort out your cat’s litter box problems, but we have faith that will a little trial and error, you can do it. Also, remember that your veterinarian is a great resource. Your vet can give you tips and also give your cat a check up to rule out any health problems that might be causing litter box aversion.

Drop a comment. We would love to hear from you.
