Did you know there’s a day dedicated to respecting your cat? Honestly, my cat Sunday would argue every day should count.
March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day! I love any excuse to paws and think about what our cats need from us.
5 Ways to Show Your Cat Respect
- Keep the litter box clean – A clean box is a way to say I see you to your cat.
- Only pet them when they approach you – It’s a small act of respect that makes a big difference.
- Try some easy cat training – Here is a link to get you started: CatSchool
- Give your cat some space – Cats need time to themselves.
- Play with your cat! – Even ten minutes with a wand toy makes a difference.
The one that is the hardest for me is not to pet and try to cuddle with Sunday until she is ready for physical contact. I love her so much, but the way naturally I want to express my love doesn’t always land well with her. Sunday loves play time, training time, and cuddle time on her terms. When I wait until she is ready to cuddle, it’s the most wonderful bonding experience.
In CatSchool Sunday has learned so many amazing things! I began CatSchool to learn cooperative care like going into her carrier and being comfortable with nail trims. CatSchool has provided us with so much more. The tricks and the skills give Sunday mental stimulation and help us to bond. She knows how to press a cat button, jump through my arm hoop, lie down, and so much more.
